I’m Rhonda, and I’m a Type 1 Diabetic diagnosed in 1994 at age 21. I use a Medtronic MiniMed pump, the OneTouch finger-stick meter that came with it (but NOT the CGM that came with it), a Dexcom G4 CGM, and numerous other OneTouch UltraMini meters that I have strewn around the house, in my car, etc.

I have a fabulous husband, a wonderful daughter, and family and friends who make life grand. I’m generally a positive-outlook kind of person, except for those days when I’m not. (And you’ll know when those days happen, I’m sure.)

Fifteen wait fifteen comes from the “rule” of how to treat a low blood sugar that my very first endocrinologist told me to use. Apparently, when you go low (whatever “low” number that is?) you are supposed to eat or drink 15g of carbs, then wait 15 minutes, test your sugar again, and determine if you should eat/drink more to treat the low. Problem is, that doesn’t necessarily work for every single person – we all are different, have different bodies, different digestions, etc. And besides, when you are crashing and going super low, who has the presence of mind to ONLY eat 15g and not every single thing in the fridge?

I started this blog thinking I could write something every-single-day, but that’s a bit ambitious given my hectic-yet-fun-filled life, so I’m shooting for at least a couple times a week. (Can I use-more-hyphens-between-words??) Diabetes, my management of it, and all the crap that goes along with living with it will be the main focus, but there will be days I chat about family, dogs, photography, technology, and any other topic that happens to come up.

I am not a doctor or medical professional of any sort, and for all I know, anyone posting comments here may not be either. I post information about my own medications and devices that I use, but please do not consider me an expert (I don’t), and always consult your own doctor or health team before you change anything about your own regimen of care. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or contact your local medical professionals for assistance. This blog houses my personal experiences and opinions, links to things I find helpful or amusing, and is a creative outlet that could sometimes be mistaken as my own personal electronic psychologist.

At present, no one is paying me for posting anything on this blog, and I have received no monetary compensation or gifts for anything I have written. I like gifts, though, and you are free to send them to me, as long as you understand you may or may not receive a personal Thank You note, depending on how busy I am at that given time of day/week/month/year. (My handwriting is terrible, so the “thank you” would more than likely only occur through email or some other form of electronic submission.) This blog may revolve around my life, but my life does not revolve around this blog. I have to take time to actually *experience* life if I’m going to write about it, yes?

If you’d like to contact me, I am MOST active on my Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/FifteenWaitFifteen

But if you don’t mind waiting (potentially) a couple weeks for me to email you back, feel free to send me an email with this nifty contact form below:
